The Delhi Pacemaker Bank is spearheaded by Mr. Harish Salve, a noted lawyer as its chairman and several eminent lawyers patronizes this noble cause in 2013. In the last 9 years, ‘Delhi Pacemaker Bank’ has sponsored more than 60 pacemaker implants at NHI. The “Free Pacemaker Implant Programme” was launched at National Heart Institute in the year 1988 with the help of Heartbeat International, USA. More than 280 free pacemakers have been implanted so far with help of Heartbeat International, USA & Delhi Pacemaker Bank.
For the noble cause of helping the children and young women suffering from advanced heart ailments, Dr. Padmavati-Janaki Memorial Trust entered into an MoU with NHI in December 2016. As part of this, more than 80 patients have undergone major open-heart surgeries at NHI.
Hans Foundation, a registered public charitable trust, focussing on issues concerning education, women empowerment, and healthcare, collaborated with NHI for major heart surgeries of children, and signed an MoU in October 2016. Since than 110 children have undergone open-heart surgeries.
With the aim of helping children born with cleft lip and palate, a partnership with Smile Train, a USA-based NGO, was established on 8th February 2020. The surgical team is complemented by a speech therapist, pediatrician, patient coordinator and ENT specialist - all catering to the needs of children with cleft. All the treatment of these children is free. Over 90 children have been operated under this initiative.
Egged on by initial success and accolades, NHI-Smile Train team is aiming at elevating NHI as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ for the management of children with cleft lip and palate soon. It is also planning to augment its services by inducting an Orthodontist, a Child Nutritionist, Psychologist, ENT specialist, and Social workers.
Since 2019 Meenakshi Devi Mattoo Trust has been providing financial assistance for the noble cause of helping the underprivileged get the required medical treatment.
