Dr. S. Padmawati is the frist female cardiologist of India. She was instrumental in establishing the frist cardiac clinic and cardiac cath lab in north India and by doing so, inspired many female doctors to take up this speciality.she made the field look lucrative and proved that even females can make a mark in this 'tedious looking' speciality. After her stint at the maulana Azad Medical Collage as Dirctor Principal and Consultant in Cardiology at Govind ballabh Pant Hospital.

She is pioneer in promoting preventive cardiology in india. She has been closely involved in international cardiology e.g. World Heart Fedration (Board Member), Asian Pacific Heart Network ( President), Asian Pacific Society of cardiology (Vice President) and World Health Organisation. She has been the president of the cardiological Society of India, National Academy of Medical science , member of goverment body, indian council of Medical Research and all india institute of medical science. She is also the Dean and faculty of medical science university of Delhi. She has been a visiting professor in the university of kurume japan & university of California at San Francsco and overseas Advisor to Royal Collage of Physician (London). The Lady of grits has been awarded Padma Vibhushan, padma Bhushan, Harvard Medical International Award, Dr BC Roy Aword among sevral others.
